Life Saving Blood Available for Local Pet Owners through Dr. Steven G. Paul Memorial Blood Donation FundIn a unique program the Coral Springs Dog Day Run has worked out an agreement with Sun States: Blood Banks for Animals to sponsor blood products for needy pets and families in the local area. The Coral Springs Dog Day Run is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity organization that raises funds to support animal related causes. “This is a perfect use of funds, where it meets our mission and helps pets in our area get the gift of life,” stated Dr. Steven Paul, a local veterinarian whose legacy will continue to live on through the Dr. Steven G. Paul Memorial Blood Donation Fund. This fund has been established at Sun States: Blood Banks for Animals, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that maintains a bank of life-saving blood & blood products for dogs, where the costs for acquisition and delivery of the blood products will be underwritten and sponsored by the charity’s donation.“We feel we will be able to get the needed information out and the blood needed to help some pets in need to overcome, what would normally be a tragic situation,” advised Rick Johnson, Executive Director of Sun States. Many times pets may not only need blood for anemic conditions, but for trauma, surgery, and other very serious diseases may be helped with the other portions of blood including plasma and platelets that can be offered by Sun States. Sun States has become instrumental in South Florida by helping many pets and works hand in hand with your veterinarian to supply the needed blood to help your pet.“As a veterinarian, it is nice to know that Rick Johnson and his fellow Director, Larry DeLuca, have worked diligently in carrying out the requirements needed to provide healthy blood and blood components for our local pet population. There are limited alternatives to the type and quality of service these two individuals have brought to the veterinary community,” stated Dr. Paul, Hospital Director of two animal hospitals in Coral Springs. The program will help a great many pets that normally would not be able to be helped. The criteria for the program will be needs based.Since 1987, the Coral Springs Dog Day Run has raised over $150,000 for local pet related caused, including our Coral Springs Dog Park, animal oxygen masks for firefighters in Northwest Broward County, as well as a bullet proof vest for one of the Coral Springs Police Canine Unit dogs, just to name a few.Communities that will benefit from this program include: Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek, Margate, and Tamarac. For more information contact: -Coral Springs Dog Day Run, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization can be contacted at (954) 752-1879 or e-mail Darryl Schumaker at darryl@toppetcare.com / www.dogdayrun.org Eligibility Form (Veterinary Use Only) Please submit the Eligibility Form, Pre-Transfusion and Transfusion Worksheets to Coral Springs Dog Day Run for approval.
