WHOLE BLOODStorage for up to 42 days at 4° C

Whole Blood contains both cells and plasma.  Whole blood has a relatively short shelf life, and therefore is not regularly stocked by Sun States.  While unprocessed whole blood can be stored up to 42 days, platelets, labile clotting factors are no longer viable 8 hours after collection.   The only true clinical indication for fresh whole blood is for severe hemorrhage.

We encourage the use of blood components to treat the majority of cases.

We will be happy to work with your practice to help tailor component therapy to the specific needs of your patients.  Please contact Sun States for additional information.
